Company History
The History and Development of Reynolds Lake Oconee
Real estate development began in 1986 with home site sales beginning in 1987. Shortly thereafter, construction began on the Preserve golf course, originally named the Plantation Course. The Preserve Course, designed by Bob Cupp with consultation provided by Fuzzy Zoeller and Hubert Green, opened in the fall of 1988. The original Plantation Clubhouse and restaurant opened in January 1989. The clubhouse was renamed The Preserve when it was renovated and reopened in 2017, which includes the Eighty Eight Kitchen and Cocktails restaurant.
The Great Waters Course, a Jack Nicklaus signature design, opened in July of 1992. The course is located at Great Waters, a 680-acre wooded peninsula located in Putnam County just across the lake from Reynolds Lake Oconee. The Great Waters Course is known for its breath-taking beauty and the back nine with eight holes along Lake Oconee.
The National Course was the third golf course built at Reynolds Lake Oconee. Opening in August 1997, this Tom Fazio design brought 18 more holes to Reynolds Lake Oconee. Carved into a forest of pines and hardwoods east of Linger Longer Road, the course features dramatic elevation changes, winding creeks and spectacular views of Lake Oconee. Less than three years later, nine more holes were added to The National Course and opened for play in November 2000. The National Course is Reynolds Lake Oconee’s only 27-hole course.
The Oconee is the fourth golf course addition to Reynolds Lake Oconee. Noted golf course architect, Rees Jones, designed this 18-hole course. The Oconee combines wonderful land and an excellent routing plan resulting in an abundance of exciting golf. It is located adjacent to The Ritz-Carlton Lodge, Reynolds Lake Oconee.
Also located on The Oconee is the Reynolds Golf Academy, which opened along with The Oconee Course and Oconee Clubhouse in the spring of 2002. The golf academy and related services have been successful additions to the golf experience at Reynolds Lake Oconee.
The Landing Course first opened in 1986 under the name “Port Armor”. The course was designed by Bob Cupp and was the first championship golf course on Lake Oconee. Reynolds Lake Oconee purchased the community and golf course in 2005. A significant investment was made to upgrade the golf course, the roads, and the amenities, with a pool, tennis, and recreation facility that opened in 2007.
The Lake Club opened in 2006. The hub of member social and wellness activity at Reynolds Lake Oconee, the member-only Lake Club features indoor/outdoor pools, state-of-the-art fitness center, wellness center, whirlpool spa, Kathy’s Café, ballrooms, meeting spaces, the Rock House and the award-winning Lake Club Tennis Center.
Reynolds Lake Oconee’s private golf course, The Creek Club, opened for member play on June 1, 2007. Jim Engh, course architect, created a contemporary golf masterpiece complete with rolling bunkers, Zoysia grass fairways and striking water features.
Reynolds Lake Oconee launched the Kingdom at Reynolds Lake Oconee in the fall of 2007. The game enhancement facility is a partnership between Reynolds Lake Oconee and TaylorMade-adidas Golf Company and is located on the Oconee Course.
